To be launched in October, 1997 on a Titan IV-Centaur rocket from Cape Canaveral, Florida, Cassini will execute two gravity-assist flybys of Venus, then one each of Earth and Jupiter to send it on to arrive at Satrun in June, 2004.
Equipment for a total of twelve science experiments will be carried onboard the Cassini orbiter. Some of these instruments which could be used during the Jupiter flyby include an imaging system for pictures in near-ultraviolet, visible, and near-infrared light; mass spectrometers to examine neutral and charged particles near the planet, and a magnetometer to study the magnetosphere.
The Cassini mission is a joint project of NASA and the European Space Agency.
